Wordcloud Project
Problem Statement
I noticed that entry level data analysts have a huge variety in qualifications and responsibilities.
I wanted to determine the most common qualifications and responsibilities for entry level data analysts in the Philippines.
The key stakeholders are the following:
Methodology
Data Collection
The Qualifications and Responsibilities were manually obtained in various job hunting websites such as Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Jobstreet and Joblum using copy and paste method. The project collected data from 110 online job posting for entry level data analysts with 0-2 years of experience.
Data Analysis
The data was placed in an online Wordcloud generator by Monkeylearn.com to generate insights on what words and phrases have the most frequency in job postings. The website also creates a downloadable csv file for the actual count of each word.
Data Visualization
Wordcloud - Qualifications
The wordcloud visual created by Monkeylearn.com highlights the qualifications for an entry-level data analyst in the Philippines. There is strong emphasis on experience, bachelor's degree and skills/ability.
Bar chart- Qualifications
The skills and experience rank the highest as the most common qualifications that companies look for. Skills may be acquired through self-learning, bootcamps or colleges/universities. A bachelor's degree is the third in the ranking as it is a common requirement to have an undergraduate bachelor's degree. The skills that are most sought for are SQL (4th), Statistics (5th), Python (7th), Tableau (8th), MS Excel (9th), MS Office (10th) and Power BI (11th). It seems that companies also look for relevant experience for entry-level data analysts. Thus, it is important to have relevant data analytics experience in internships or volunteer programs.
Wordcloud - Responsibilities
The wordcloud visual created by Monkeylearn.com highlights the responsibilities for an entry-level data analyst in the Philippines. There is strong emphasis on data, report, business, team and client.
Bar chart - Responsibilities
Unsurprisingly, data ranks 1st as the most common responsibility of a data analyst. Creating reports (2nd) through dashboards (10th) to generate insights (8th) is a common responsibility of an entry-level data analyst. The data analyst will also be engaged in the business (3rd) and working on a team (4th) to solve client (5th) and stakeholders (9th) issues (6th) using data analytics tools (7th).
Conclusion
As reported in the data visualization, working with data and reports as a team are the common responsibilities while skills, experience and a bachelor's degree (computer science is highly preferred) are the common qualifications and SQL, statistics, python, tableau and Microsoft PowerBI are the common skills of an entry level data analyst. Thus, the proejct gave me inisghts on what I'll do in the future as a data analyst and the skills that I will improve and master specifically SQL as it is the most common qualification for a data analyst. I'll also master my verbal and written communication skills to be able to present to clients and internal stakeholders.
Web scraping for data collection of job postings was not used because there are incidents where a website bans the IP address of a web scraper.
